Tips & Best Practices
- Add exam dates at the beginning of each term so teachers and parents can plan ahead.
- Use the "Meeting" type for parent-teacher conferences and board meetings.
- Color-coding makes it easy to distinguish between exams, trips, and general events.
- Set the audience deliberately — not every event needs to reach every parent.
Frequently Asked Questions
You choose the audience when creating the event: all staff, specific classes, parents, or the whole school community. An event set to staff only does not appear in the parent portal, so internal planning stays internal.
Create the event on the relevant dates and use a consistent title and event type so they group clearly in the calendar view. Filtering by type then shows the full series at a glance across the term.
Events appear in the calendar and on the dashboard for their audience. For anything time-critical, such as a changed exam date, send an announcement as well rather than relying on parents checking the calendar.
Add fixed dates — terms, exams, holidays and parents' evenings — at the start of each term. Teachers and families plan around these, so early entry reduces clashes and last-minute changes far more than mid-term edits do.
Exam, Meeting, Assembly, Trip and General. Each is colour-coded in the calendar view, so you can distinguish an exam week from a trip at a glance and filter the calendar down to one type when planning.
Yes. Use the keyword search to jump straight to an event by title, or filter by event type using the colour-coded legend. Both are faster than paging through the monthly view when the date is uncertain.
